The Orchard Market & Cafe is a full-service, middle eastern restaurant specializing in traditional and experimental Persian (Iranian) cuisine. Opened in 1988, the restaurant seats up to 60 people in a colorful, yet subdued, atmosphere of Persian carpets, running fountains, photographs and artwork from ancient Persian and modern Iran.
The menu features such traditional items as poached duck or chicken in a walnut pomegranate sauce; lamb, chicken, ground beef or fillet mignons kabobs; or, on the experimental side, seasoned sauteed breast of chicken topped with eggplant and provolone cheese with a garlic-tomato-curry sauce. Seafood and paella are standard, but seasoned with curry, Persian saffron and sundried herbs in a combination of fenugreek, parsley, and cilantro; or flavored with angelica or a blend of cumin, cardamon, cinnamon and crused rose petals. Appetizers are: aash, the national soup of Iran, with lentils, red kidney beans, chickpeas and vermicilli egg noodles seasoned with curry - delicious! Hummus, hallem bademjune, which is similar to bab ganouj, as well as their famous eggplant-artichoke appetizer draped in a creamy mustard dill sauce and melted Bulgarian feta cheese. There are many other seafood and vegetarian appetizers to choose from. |
