It's as French as the Left Bank. As gracious as an old farmhouse in Provence. It is fragrant with baking breads and simmering soups. And its welcome is as warm as a landscape by Monet. A more authentically French restaurant is not to be found.
Owned by Chef William Severac and his wife, Muriel, Chez Gerard is located in the historic Hopwood House, dating from 1790, in the village of Hopwood, Pennsylvania, at the base of the Laurel Highlands. It opened in August, 1994. "Our food," says William, "is prepared as it would be in France - in the way of the French by the French." The menu is extensive, ranging - in the words of one critic - "from the elegantly simple to the simply elegant, a culinary tour de force." And it's all affordable: dinners start at $40; luncheons at $21. |
