It has been called the best French restaurant in America by the likes of Julia Child, Jacques Pepin, Mimi Sheraton and Craig Clairborn. The storied history of Le Francais has made it an icon in the restaurant business. Founding chef Jean Banchet created a culinary showplace in 1973 that changed how American diners saw French food. His haute cuisine would open the way for a whole generation of classically trained French chefs and Le Francais would be at the center of a rising interest in French food in America. It would not be a stretch to say that Banchet's innovative cuisine and his subsequent success, was the inspiration for many of today's top chefs.
After twenty-eight years, Le Francais remains at the top of its game, continuing to produce the finest in French cuisine. Larger than life Chef Jean Banchet has recently retired but his handpicked successors, Chef Don Yamauchi and Proprietor Philip Mott, have already shown that they are up to the task of maintaining Le Francais' world-class status.
