We were the 1st ones there; although our reception wasn't warm [genially cool and civil], the food and service were excellent. We had striploin and rabbit papardelle. The striploin was well-done [as requested], and good, though not tender. The acc... Read moreompanying potatoes were crisp and purple. The papardelle was excellent - the sauce was flavorful and complimentary to the rabbit and broccolini. The server recommended a nice pinot noir that went well with the meal. The bread & butter that started the meal were very good - hot out of the oven [bread], and soft but not drippy [butter]. We had the charcuterie plate - bacon-wrapped rabbit pate (lots!), pickled kohlrabi, small cuke pickle, a mustard-relish spread, dabs of mustard, and toasted bread. It too matched well with the wine - the kohlrabi was strongly sour, but not in a bad way. I also had the butter lettuce salad, which was presented as if each leaf were still attached at the core, and each was spread evenly with dressing. The bleu cheese [a nice amount - no skimping here!] was piled in the center with the coated walnuts - a little pepper was laid out to the edge of the plate on either side. Mild but flavorful cheese, and smooth dressing. Very good!
Dessert choices were not the usual ones we find or look for, so we settled on a gelato/sorbet combination [3 scoops; you can pick/choose the flavors]. The raspberry sorbet was the best meal ender, but the chocolate gelato was also excellent, begging for an after-dinner coffee for which I didn't have time.
Our server was very new [2nd day on the job], and we were early enough to have come in before all the dinner info had been presented to him. He agreeably answered our questions as quickly as possible. Our water was topped off regularly and attentively by another waiter. We felt welcome, not rushed and not ignored.
The appetizer, salad, two entrees, dessert and two glasses of good wine ran us under $90; not a bad tradeoff for the quality and the service.
